Looking down the river |
Today we found the sunshine! Early start to be at the train station by 7.00. Walking through the dark Madrid streets as they came alive was a lovely experience. The unique sights, sounds and smells of everyday life.
The train trip was amazing, 3.30 hrs at, up to 300+ km/hour and it hardly felt like we were moving. The train was so smooth and quiet and there was even a movie to watch - unfortunately it was in Spanish with French subtitles! The scenery was fascinating, reminded us more of Italy than anywhere else we had been. It was a great way to see more of the country and incredibly efficient.
Our apartment in Girona is on the forth and fifth floor of an apartment right off the main ‘street’. Apart from having to carry our bags up so many stairs, it is just perfect. Out of one side we look over the square where people are eating and drinking, complete with guitar and accordian players. Out of the other side we look over the river and can see the tall, thin colourful houses that make the city so well known.
We explored the old Jewish quarter and walked around the city walls. Unfortunately Craig and Annette were tricked by some very clever pick pockets and lost some of their money. The really amazing thing was that the thieves managed to get Craig’s wallet, remove the money, and then return it, without him realising. A lesson for us all, particularly the girls who probably thought that it would never happen to them.
Tonight we dined in the street below our apartment and enjoyed delicious gelato for dessert - the flavours are amazing. Have really enjoyed our fleeting visit to Girona and it has given us a small ’taste’ of local life.

That looks gorgeous! glad you have found the sun, it hasn't been evident here for a couple of days:-)
What a great time you are having. Bad luck re pick pockets but it has always been rife in Spain. We experienced a similar thing 40 years ago.
