Street Market French Style...

Street Market in St Antonin

Woke up to the hint of a frost and a glorious blue sky. The day just kept on getting better and we ended up with temperatures high 20s. After a lovely relaxing start, we drove about 15 km to St Antonin Nobel-Val where there is a local market.  The town square was full of stalls and there were more stalls up the narrow curved streets of the village.  An amazing assortment of fresh foods on sale as well as being entertained by local musicians.

The smells were amazing, couldn’t help tasting and buying the goodies that were available. We did buy some amazing almond and pistachio nut nougat.  it was in huge round blocks, a bit like cheese and the seller cut off as much as you wanted, and then paid by weight - just fabulous. Couldn’t resist the cheeses, crusty breads and salami as well.
We drove back to our delightful watermill to feast on our purchases, for lunch in the sunshine.  This afternoon we explored some of the valley near the mill, on one of the many public walkways that seem to meander across the countryside.. We climbed up the side of the valley, enjoying the unusual bird calls and wild flowers. Spring is just beginning to burst forth. It is so cool to see people walking all along the tracks without having to worry about being on private property. We did see some lizards and some unusual bugs along the way. Craig and Charlotte ‘stumbled upon’ a snake - apparently there are a few different types in this part of France.
We finished the day by going to the ‘grand opening’ of the bar at Loze, along with a small group of locals.  A game of petatanque was underway when we arrived. A slight misunderstanding about how much beer and cider we wanted - some sort of good humoured language breakdown left us with more than expected.   How French is that!
Monsieur la Mayor was there and shook our hands - not that he will get any votes from us!

Dinner outside under the verandah, enjoying the last of the crusty bread, cheeses and ham, along with chocolate and red wine. Ah… fabulous…..
